THE PLAY:
Brooke, attempting to navigate the world without a family, support system, or access to opportunity, finds herself working over 90 hours a week at three jobs to pay rent, bill collectors, student loans, and manage one meal a day – and she still comes up short every single week. That is, until she is presented with an opportunity that she cannot say no to: the Sugar Bowl.
Content warnings:
Please note the script includes sexual content, misogyny, racism, fatphobia, and some hateful language.
THE PRODUCTION:
Rehearsals: March 10 - 13th, from 7pm - 10pm
March 17 - April 9, timing TBD (Likely Saturday afternoons and three week day evenings a week)
Tech: April 10-16, 2025
Performances: April 17-May 3, 2025 at the BCA Black Box
Stipend: Actor stipends for this production will be $440. We are unable to hire AEA actors at this time.
CHARACTERS/CASTING:
We encourage performers of all gender identities, races, body types, and abilities to audition. In our character breakdowns, cisgender is not the default. Transgender, nonbinary, and genderqueer artists are encouraged to audition for all roles. Unless otherwise specified on the casting breakdown, we will consider actors from all backgrounds and identities in casting decisions.
BROOKE WILSON (she/her): a 20-something fat woman of color. She does not know her racial background and is often mistaken for many different ethnicities. She aspires to be a painter.
Intimacy note: Please read the script carefully when you consider auditioning for BROOKE. While there is no nudity in the show, the character will likely be in underwear on stage. There may also be some simulated sex acts. We will be working with an intimacy director for all of these moments and more, so if you’d like to learn more about how these will be handled, please reach out to Olivia Dumaine at olivia.dumaine@gmail.com.
HOLLY O’NEILL (she/her): a 20-something thin white woman from a wealthy family. She is the best friend to BROOKE and the girlfriend to WILL. She is also VOICE 1.
DEREK ADAMS (he/him): a mid-30s to mid-40s Seminole man of considerable wealth. He is also VOICE 2.
WILL STRICKLAND (he/him): a 20-something white man from a wealthy family. He also plays VOICE 3.
NINA RODRIGUEZ (she/her): a 30-something Mexican woman who lives down the hall from BROOKE. She has a 2-year-old daughter.
